Hey! Say! JUMP’s Kota Yabu Reveals Ae! group’s Keita Richard Kusama’s Shyness
Hey! Say! JUMP’s Kota Yabu and Ae! group’s Keita Richard Kusama held a public dress rehearsal for the musical “tick, tick…BOOM!” which has been running at Theatre Creation in Tokyo since October 6th.
The story follows Jon, played by Yabu, who aspires to succeed as a musical writer while making a living through part-time jobs. Yabu commented, “The scenes change rapidly before you even realize it. You need to approach it with full concentration,” showing his determination.
Kusama, who plays Jon’s best friend Michael, is making his stage debut. Yabu introduced his junior by saying, “Richard may not seem like it, but he is incredibly shy.” He revealed to the press, “Listen, I was the one who asked for his contact information,” explaining that he had taken the initiative as a senior. In response, Kusama bashfully admitted, “I’m just shy…”
Yabu shared his thoughts from that time, saying, “I thought we would never exchange contact information if this continued, so I said, ‘Richard, let’s exchange contacts,'” which elicited laughter from the audience.
When asked about performing with such a senior, Kusama expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s incredibly easy to work with him.” Yabu, responding with a wry smile, said, “Easy to work with? (laughs) This is the first time someone has said that to me. Thank you. Even the way he struggles with Japanese is cute.”
The Tokyo performances will continue at Theatre Creation until October 31st.
