“Asian Grammy Awards” Established! “MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN” Launched to discover Young Talent Across Asia
Japan’s five major music organizations have established a new music award called “MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN.” The announcement event was held on October 21 in Tokyo.
This award is positioned as the “Asian Grammy Awards,” modeled after the American music awards. There are over 60 categories, including the six main categories such as Best Song and Best Artist. Nominations are selected from works and artists that have ranked on music charts such as Oricon and Billboard Japan. The format follows the Grammy Awards, where the winners of each category are announced at the awards ceremony.
The most notable feature is that the participating artists and music industry professionals have the right to vote. The organizing body, the Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA), states that the number of voters is “over 5,000.” Syunsuke Muramatsu, Chairman of CEIPA, expressed the aim: “We want to make the young and talented Japanese artists recognized worldwide.”
The awards ceremony will be held on May 22 next year in Kyoto.
